From the architect: The state of mind that guided me throughout the design process was the connection of my client to ‘The International Style’ of architecture.
The clients specifically asked me to interpret the house into ‘International style villa’ and to use typical elements and characterizations of that style while planing the house.
From the first place, it was clear to me that the house needed to be designed as a simple mass without any decoration elements that take attention of the pure architecture style while above all it must be functional off course. This starting point led me to think about the design of the spaces and how they form the International style. For example: The couple, in their 60’s, demanded the main living area to be spread upon only 1 floor. They need only one master bedroom on the main floor, no other room necessary.
They also asked that they dont want any exposure to the main street and no directly sun so the south elevation is blocked to the main road and also have a canopy thorough the entrance elevation, thats the reason why the position of the”open” side of the house is to the north direction so they can enjoy from the light and from the hot sun (Israel is a very sunny country during the summer and its really important to design it from the beginning with the correct direction so we can use it to our needs otherwise it wont be pleasant to live there).
Also they both working from the house so a study room is a must therefore i design it near the pool area so they can have a nice environment while working.
