Residential gardens created by landscape architects and designers can possess an ineffable sense of magic, until the tricks behind their creation are revealed. A few professionals are offering to share their secrets through Garden Dialogues, a national series of garden tours hosted by the Cultural Landscape Foundation. Running now through Oct. 5, each Garden Dialogues event invites a small group to visit a remarkable garden (a few tours include multiple sites), where the house’s landscape designer along with the owner (and in some cases, its architect) describe how they created the environment.
“Very often when you go on garden tours, a lot of people just focus on the plants,” said Charles Birnbaum, president of the Cultural Landscape Foundation. “The difference here is that people start to understand the nuances of garden design, and how the decisions are made.”
