The announcement of the winning design in the open, international design competition organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation for a proposed Guggenheim museum in Helsinki.

Inaugurated in June 2014, the competition generated a record-making 1,715 submissions from 77 countries. In December 2014, the 11-member jury announced a shortlist of six designs to be developed as finalists, selecting them for their potential in engaging with the site on Helsinki’s South Harbor, contributing to the urban context, advancing sustainable architecture and challenging, or expanding on, conventional museum practice. In keeping with European Union and Finnish procurement rules, the identities of the firms responsible for the six finalist designs were announced but not matched to the submissions. On June 23, the winning design and its architect will be revealed.
