The transformation of a listed nineteenth-century building in Utrecht becomes an exercise in elevating heritage through measured contemporary intervention. Architect Remy Meijers grounded his approach in close observation, allowing the building’s dark wood panelling and ornamentation to emerge as defining features rather than constraints. By aligning new materials and spatial gestures with the logic of the existing interior, the design establishes a refined dialogue between historical craftsmanship and modern precision.
