Bamboo House designed by BL Studio de Arquitetura in Paraná, Brazil, transforms a flat urban plot into a resort-inspired retreat. Completed in 2017, the home wraps around a central garden and pool, creating a lush tropical ambiance with nearly 100% greenery. The garage and storage are in the basement, while elevated social areas add monumentality and dynamic levels. Natural materials like wood, wood stone, and Hijau stone ensure timelessness, and wooden muxarabi panels provide privacy while revealing glimpses of the interior. Large 7m-high pivoting doors connect the living room to the pool deck, a view also enjoyed from the TV room and master suite, which offers direct deck access. Built with reinforced concrete, masonry, and steel frames, the house highlights high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

When the clients hired architect Rogério Barbieri in 2017 to design their new home, they had a clear vision of what they wanted. The husband emphasized that the house should be his wife’s dream home and that it should be designed entirely based on her wishes.

The wife had a single request: “I want to live in a house that feels like a resort, where there is vegetation all year round and I can enjoy the scenery every day.” This vision would have been straightforward to achieve on a naturally picturesque site; however, the couple’s chosen plot was a 1,000m² flat, walled piece of land located in an urban compound, lacking any natural landscape or views.

At this stage, it was decided to create the landscape at the center of the property, with the house wrapping around the main garden and swimming pool area. To maximize the use of the land, the garage and storage rooms were located in the basement, while the excavated soil was utilized to elevate the gourmet and social areas. This approach not only added monumentality to the facade but also introduced dynamic levels that created more engaging and dramatic circulation and transitions between the exterior spaces and the central garden.

To ensure both comfort and timelessness, the project incorporated natural materials such as wood, wood stone, and Hijau stone for the wet areas, materials that the design team is deeply passionate about. Nearly 100% green vegetation was included to create a tropical atmosphere. Large glass panels were covered with wooden muxarabi panels to provide privacy while offering passersby a subtle glimpse of the interior, sparking curiosity without compromising the family’s seclusion. In the social area, 7-meter-high pivoting doors fully open the living room to the pool deck, a view that is also enjoyed from the private spaces and the TV room.

The master suite provides the couple with direct access to the deck, allowing them to wake up to views of the lush foliage from their bed or hydromassage bathtub. The house was constructed using a combination of reinforced concrete, block masonry, and steel frames, utilizing the finest materials and craftsmanship available in Paraná state.
