Baska House residential project designed by LABANC.STUDIO in Baška, Slovakia, integrates modular architecture with a sloped terrain by organizing five flexible volumes into two functional wings around a preserved central garden. Completed from 2017 to 2020, the design by Tomáš Labanc and Ramon Bernabe elevates the main living spaces above a semi-sunken entrance level. The project adapts to the site’s topography and allows future spatial reconfiguration, reflecting a long-term residential strategy grounded in landscape sensitivity and modular design logic.

Baska House is located at the edge of Baška, a village near Košice in eastern Slovakia. The plot features a dual-directional slope that opens up panoramic views of the surrounding forest. Rather than altering the topography, the architectural solution embraces it, forming a composition that works with the land’s natural contours.

LABANC.STUDIO, led by Tomáš Labanc and Ramon Bernabe, developed the design to respond directly to this complex terrain. The entrance level is partially sunken into the site and houses supporting functions. This strategy allows the main residential volume to sit elevated above the ground, dividing into two distinct wings. One wing accommodates daytime activities such as cooking, dining, and gathering. The other offers more private spaces for rest and retreat. These volumes are arranged to enclose a central garden, shaped around several mature pine trees that were preserved and integrated into the spatial experience.

The house is structured as five modular units, each with the ability to shift in function as the client’s needs evolve. This modularity guided the entire design process, from early conceptual studies and permitting documentation to final construction detailing.

Completed between 2017 and 2020, Baska House reflects a methodical and adaptable approach to residential architecture. It connects built form to topography through thoughtful elevation and spatial organization while offering a long-term framework for domestic life that remains flexible and rooted in the site.
