Belalu Dome Villa, designed by Pablo Luna Studio, forms part of the Belalu Bali Boutique & Spa Experience in Ubud, Indonesia. Conceived as a retreat for eco-conscious travelers, the 80-square-meter villa merges sustainable design with a refined sense of comfort. Set amid the tropical jungles of Kedewatan, the architecture takes inspiration from natural forms, with a dome-shaped structure built primarily from bamboo and local stone. The design’s seamless curvature and open plan foster an immersive connection to the surrounding landscape. Through locally sourced materials such as limestone, ulin wood, and woven bamboo, the villa embodies the balance between modern ecological sensibilities and traditional craftsmanship, creating an experience of renewal and intimacy within nature.

Set within the dense greenery of Ubud’s Kedewatan region, Belalu Dome Villa reflects Pablo Luna Studio’s continuing exploration of organic architecture in tropical contexts. The project reinterprets the archetypal dome through a contemporary lens, achieving a balance between enclosure and openness. Rising as a sculptural form rooted in the terrain, the villa’s structure is shaped by arched bamboo frames that grow seamlessly from the ground, eliminating the need for vertical columns. This continuity lends the building a rhythmic, almost breathing presence within the landscape.

The villa’s spatial arrangement unfolds through three interconnected areas that encourage fluid movement and a sense of calm. The central master bedroom anchors the composition, its textured limestone walls and bespoke furnishings celebrating local craftsmanship. A semi-open bathroom extends toward a private garden, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior, while an indoor jacuzzi on the opposite side reinforces the design’s connection between wellness and environment.

Materiality defines both the form and spirit of the project. The structure’s bamboo skeleton merges with surfaces of limestone, slate, and ulin wood, forming a tactile palette that resonates with its tropical setting. Woven bamboo panels filter sunlight into soft patterns that animate the interior throughout the day. The generous openings and the curvature of the roof ensure natural ventilation, allowing air and light to move freely through the space.

Beyond its physical attributes, Belalu Dome Villa demonstrates how architecture can nurture well-being through environmental harmony. The project’s design responds sensitively to the local climate, utilizing passive cooling and shading rather than mechanical systems. This approach enhances the guest experience while underscoring the villa’s sustainable intent. Every structural decision serves both aesthetic and ecological purposes, creating a built form that breathes with its surroundings.

At its core, the villa is an embodiment of balance—between protection and openness, luxury and restraint, craft and innovation. The seamless integration of natural materials and handcrafted details elevates the project beyond hospitality architecture into an expression of mindful living. Within its tranquil setting, architecture becomes a form of quiet dialogue between people and place.

As part of the broader Belalu Bali Boutique & Spa Experience, the villa stands as both retreat and reflection, inviting guests to rediscover the rhythm of nature through the language of design. Pablo Luna Studio’s interpretation of the dome as an organic, self-sustaining form transforms a simple shelter into a living organism—one that offers renewal not only to its occupants but also to the landscape it inhabits.
