Cañuelas House residential project by 3164.estudio and SDF Arquitectos in Córdoba, Argentina has explored tectonic form and spatial introversion within a flat, residential neighborhood. Using exposed concrete walls joined by metal profiles in a Cartesian arrangement, the house balances privacy and controlled openings toward a golf course. Organized into two sliding volumes—social and private—the layout is structured along a central linear axis that connects street access, interior circulation, and exterior amenities like a gallery, pool, and lawn patio. The material palette combines exposed concrete and porphyry stone with wood surfaces, establishing a balance between durability and warmth. The landscaping incorporates native species from Córdoba, arranged to bloom seasonally, enhancing the home’s integration with its environment and creating a layered atmosphere aligned with outdoor uses.

Situated in the city of Córdoba, within a neighborhood defined by flat topography and an exclusively residential character, the house is marked by its tectonic composition and restrained, inward-facing nature. Its positioning on the site is defined by concrete walls, joined by a framework of metal profiles and arranged in a Cartesian layout to either ensure privacy or frame specific views. This configuration establishes spatial boundaries and patios, while also creating openings that connect the interior with the adjacent golf course.

The functional organization of the house is based on two volumes that slide and interact with each other through a central axis. One of these volumes is dedicated to social functions, while the other is reserved for private use. The social volume contains a kitchen with an adjoining service area, a dining room, a living room, and a grill area that transitions between interior and exterior space. In contrast, the private volume includes three bedrooms, each equipped with its own en-suite bathroom.

The central axis extends linearly through the entire house. Along its path, it incorporates both exterior and interior pauses that facilitate connection with the different functional areas. It begins at the street, offering access for both vehicles and pedestrians, continues through the interior by linking the main volumes, and leads out to a patio section that features a gallery and a pool, ultimately reaching a larger patio area with an open grassy lawn.

The material palette consists of noble, durable materials. On the exterior, exposed concrete walls and irregular porphyry are used to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Inside, the same exposed concrete is combined with plank wood flooring to provide the level of comfort and quality required for daily living. In the lateral gallery and barbecue area, the material scheme is reversed: wood is applied to the ceiling, while the irregular porphyry continues across the flooring, maintaining consistency with the overall design.

From a design standpoint, the creation of pathways and the development of distinct atmospheres assign a central role to landscaping. Native plant species from the province of Córdoba were selected to produce a vernacular and familiar visual identity. Vegetation is arranged in varying groupings to correspond with the different outdoor uses of the house, with species chosen to bloom at different times throughout the year. This seasonal variation introduces a dynamic and enriching quality to the environment, enhancing the daily experience for the family.
