Community Pavilion, a public structure designed by Vlad Sebastian Rusu + Studio 82 in Feroviarilor Park, serves a key urban area with a flexible space for diverse community functions including exhibitions, concerts, and workshops. The project adopts a typology that integrates into the natural surroundings while establishing a strong visual connection between interior and exterior through a fully glazed facade. By day, the pavilion becomes a translucent volume reflecting the landscape, and by night it transforms into a luminous urban element. A circular awning provides shade and mediates between indoor activity and the park environment. Planimetrically, flexible configurations are enabled by mobile walls around the central space, with ancillary functions housed in two symmetrical opaque cores. Materials such as exposed concrete for the awning allow for natural aging, while interior partitions are clad in pine wood to support acoustic performance. All technical systems are discreetly integrated to preserve the clarity of the pavilion’s spatial and volumetric expression.

The multifunctional community pavilion is situated within the new Feroviarilor (Railway) Park, supporting a significant urban sector of the city. Designed for high flexibility, the pavilion accommodates a wide range of community events, including meetings, exhibitions, concerts, and workshops.

The project’s objective was to select a building typology that would blend into the park’s natural environment while establishing a continuous visual connection between the interior and exterior throughout both day and night. During daylight hours, the pavilion appears as a translucent volume, with its contours softened by reflections of the surrounding landscape in the glass curtain. At night, it transforms into a luminous structure, functioning as an urban lantern. The surrounding awning provides shade during the day and facilitates the transition between interior activities and the adjacent outdoor areas. Birch vegetation fills the space between the circular awning and the pavilion, further integrating the structure into the center of the park.

In plan, the pavilion allows for significant flexibility by enabling the central space to be opened or closed using movable walls. The design intention was to eliminate any defined rear facade, resulting in uniform generous glazing along the entire perimeter. All ancillary and technical areas, including ventilation systems, are concealed within two symmetrical opaque cores.

At the level of detail, exposed concrete was selected for the outer awning and the seating elements beneath it to allow the materials to develop a natural patina over time. The metal pillars supporting the awning are arranged to reflect the irregular rhythm of the surrounding tree vegetation. Inside, the partition elements are clad in pine wood, providing the required porosity for effective acoustic performance. The pavilion includes all necessary technical systems to ensure comfort during community events, with a primary focus on the visually controlled integration of ventilation, electrical, and sanitary installations. This approach preserves the pavilion’s clear spatial and volumetric identity.
