The Enea Headquarters in Rapperswil-Jona is a 30000-square-meter complex designed by Oppenheim Architecture to support the diverse operations of the internationally recognized landscape architecture firm Enea Garden Design. The project integrates greenhouses, workshops, warehouses, showrooms and administrative areas into a linear composition shaped by an internal service corridor that aligns circulation with the company’s production flow. Its restrained architectural presence responds to the landscape along the Obersee, with materials and massing chosen to maintain visual harmony with the natural surroundings. Energy efficiency served as a guiding principle, leading to the incorporation of daylighting strategies, geothermal exchange, green roofs and reclaimed materials to reduce environmental impact. The headquarters reflects a commitment to ecological responsibility through a cohesive environment that expresses clarity, purpose and respect toward the site.

The building’s approach favors a subdued presence along the lakeshore, allowing the natural setting to guide its architectural character. Oppenheim Architecture organized the project as a long, low structure whose form derives directly from the sequence of programmatic functions required by Enea’s operations. This strategy supports a cohesive workflow while establishing an understated identity that aligns with the company’s landscape-driven work.

At the center of the plan, a continuous service corridor connects the greenhouses, warehouses, workshops and showrooms, giving the complex an internal logic tied to production needs. Breaks in the mass occur only where access is essential, enabling the building to preserve its linear form without compromising functionality. The arrangement clarifies the distinction between visitor-facing areas and service zones, ensuring that each component receives appropriate access and orientation.

Material selection reinforces the project’s environmental intentions. Wood is employed to soften the structure’s appearance and promote a natural weathering process that will deepen its visual integration with the surrounding terrain. The materials chosen serve both functional and ecological aims, supporting durability while maintaining a calm and unified character throughout the building.

Sustainability operates as a foundational principle rather than an added layer. Ample natural light minimizes artificial illumination, while geothermal systems, natural insulation and green roofs contribute to long-term energy efficiency. The use of reclaimed wood and energy-conscious fixtures strengthens the project’s environmental profile, creating a headquarters that merges operational clarity with thoughtful, site-responsive architecture.
