Homa House by HOMA Studio is a 170-square-meter residence in Cyprus that reinterprets traditional domestic architecture through a contemporary lens. Conceived as a composition of three monolithic volumes emerging from the earth, the design balances solidity with intimacy, framing a central courtyard that anchors the home’s spatial sequence. Earth-toned materials and restrained detailing establish a dialogue between the built form and its natural surroundings. Inside, spaces unfold gradually, transitioning from secluded private areas to open communal zones. The project demonstrates a thoughtful integration of landscape, architecture, and light, offering a modern sanctuary that celebrates both protection and openness while maintaining a profound connection to its site.

Homa House stands as a contemporary reflection on Cypriot dwelling traditions, drawing its character from the land that sustains it. HOMA Studio envisioned the residence as an architectural meditation on shelter and belonging, emphasizing the elemental relationship between soil, light, and form. From the exterior, three solid masses rise from the terrain, their muted, earthen hues blending into the surrounding landscape. Each volume contributes to a sense of permanence and quiet strength, while their sculpted voids introduce a delicate sense of discovery.

At the core of the house lies a courtyard that acts as both threshold and heart — a reinterpretation of the communal spaces once central to family life. This inward-facing environment mediates between interior and exterior realms, filtering sunlight and air while maintaining privacy. Through this central gesture, the project reclaims an architectural typology deeply embedded in Mediterranean culture, translating it into a language of minimalism and restraint.

The interiors reveal a contrasting softness that tempers the building’s monolithic presence. Warm materials and carefully modulated light create an intimate atmosphere, emphasizing tactility and human scale. The spatial sequence follows a deliberate rhythm: private rooms transition to shared living spaces and culminate in a veranda that extends the home into the open air. This progression not only organizes the domestic program but also evokes a subtle emotional journey from introspection to connection.

Material authenticity and precise detailing define HOMA Studio’s approach. Finishes derived from natural textures reinforce the home’s grounded identity, while the integration of mechanical and structural systems remains discreet, ensuring visual clarity. The design’s restraint allows the play of light and shadow to become its most expressive feature, revealing the architecture’s quiet depth throughout the day.

In its synthesis of form, material, and memory, Homa House articulates a vision of contemporary living rooted in place and purpose. It is both a refuge and a statement — an exploration of how architecture can embody protection, serenity, and belonging without excess, allowing the essence of the landscape to guide its creation.
