House of Courtyards residential building designed by Felipe Hess Arquitetos in the interior of São Paulo has integrated the house into a sloped site by partially burying the structure to follow the natural topography and preserve existing rock formations. The design minimizes visual impact while maximizing spatial integration between the built and natural environment. Organized around a central landscaped courtyard, the single-story residence connects its main volume directly to the terrain. The bedrooms, located at the rear, feature wooden sunshades and open onto a secondary courtyard, reinforcing privacy and maintaining a controlled openness toward the surrounding landscape.

House of Courtyards, situated in a residential condominium in the interior of São Paulo, is a weekend residence that makes strategic use of the site’s natural features—a steep slope and large existing rocks.

The topography, descending from the main access road to the lot’s perimeter, guided a discreet layout that embeds the construction into the landscape. The house is partially buried to blur the distinction between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing the landscaping to extend the visual field of the horizon.

The single-story building is organized around a central landscaped courtyard. The primary volume aligns with and gently meets the site’s rock formations. At the rear, the bedrooms open onto a private courtyard and are shielded by wooden sunshades, ensuring seclusion while maintaining a visual connection to the exterior.
