The Jinghope · Life Aesthetics Community, designed by Various Associates, is conceived as a cultural and commercial extension of The Sanya EDITION. Unlike the architects’ earlier bamboo-woven beach club at the resort, this new intervention seeks harmony with the hotel’s refined character while introducing fresh layers of experience. At its core is a sculptural spiral staircase that establishes a new circulation between levels, linking public areas with commercial and artistic spaces. The design emphasizes openness and integration, with glass curtain walls, expansive show windows, and carefully curated lighting fostering both visual transparency and a heightened sense of atmosphere. Outdoors and indoors merge through landscaped terraces and contemplative zones, while curated art displays, boutique retail, and a distinctive gallery space enrich the social dimension of the resort. Materials such as travertine are employed with subtle craftsmanship, giving the project a timeless texture that complements its tropical surroundings. In doing so, the community becomes more than a retail annex: it is a cultural environment that celebrates art, design, and leisure within a cohesive architectural framework.

I prefer architectural details in which structure and cladding are clearly distinct and require no secondary decoration.

The Jinghope · Life Aesthetics Community introduces a new layer of vitality to The Sanya EDITION, carefully positioned at the resort’s entrance and within the flow leading to guest accommodations. Rather than echoing the playful bamboo-woven structures of Various Associates’ earlier beach club at the hotel, this intervention takes a quieter but equally engaging approach, emphasizing continuity with the resort’s refined atmosphere while offering a vibrant public realm.

A key gesture in the design is the addition of a spiral staircase, a sculptural element that not only creates a vertical connection but also frames elevated views across lush tropical gardens. Its fluid geometry recalls an art installation, providing visitors with a moment of pause and spectacle. This balance of movement and stillness defines the overall spatial strategy: circulation routes are carefully choreographed, yet they also allow for moments of rest, contemplation, and visual engagement.

Transparency and light play an essential role. Glass curtain walls and generous show windows open the commercial program to daylight while providing a stage for curated displays of art and products. By extending flooring materials from circulation corridors into shop interiors, the architects dissolve spatial boundaries and foster continuity. Adjustable lighting heightens flexibility, serving both practical and atmospheric needs, while framed openings to the landscape anchor the interior to its natural context.

Within the Art Center, a distinct spatial language emerges. A cross-shaped ceiling marks the reception, establishing an immediate sense of identity, while the main gallery unfolds as an open, layered environment that supports both exhibitions and bespoke furniture designed by the studio. Secondary spaces, including a reading room and retail areas, reinforce the artistic narrative through subtle variations in lighting and scale, guiding visitors through experiences of intimacy and openness.

Retail is further expressed in the SND concept store, where a minimalist interpretation of wave-like rhythms structures the space. Here, architectural form becomes metaphor, suggesting the motion of water while leading guests through shifting perspectives. This interplay of commercial activity and poetic form aligns with the wider ambition of the project: to create a commercial hub that enriches the resort’s cultural dimension without overwhelming it.

Materials ground the design in authenticity. Travertine, cut into smaller segments, extends across surfaces with a quiet rhythm that amplifies the tactile qualities of the interior. This restrained palette reflects a broader intent: to craft spaces that embody calmness and resonance rather than spectacle.

By weaving art, landscape, commerce, and leisure into a seamless whole, Various Associates have established the Jinghope · Life Aesthetics Community as a key cultural anchor for The Sanya EDITION. It is a place where visitors are invited to move fluidly between environments, encountering design not as backdrop but as an active and enriching part of the resort experience.
