Li Coco Showroom, a fashion retail space designed by bnb Design in Linyi, Shandong, uses spatial architecture to communicate brand identity through form, material, and light. Completed in 2022, the project features a bold green “Magic Box,” a double-height sculptural volume that anchors the space visually and functionally. Stainless steel, ripple glass, and slate define a material palette that balances raw textures with industrial precision. Through embedded visual cues like laser-cut logos and light-traced graphics, the brand is integrated directly into the architectural language.

Li Coco Showroom, designed by bnb Design, explores the intersection of fashion, urban culture, and architectural expression through a commercial space that functions as both a retail interior and a symbolic landmark. Instead of depending solely on its street-facing location in Linyi, the design presents a spatial narrative rooted in brand identity, aiming to establish the boutique as a cultural reference within the local fashion scene.

At the core of the project is the “Magic Box,” a nearly 30-foot-tall, bright green geometric volume that physically connects the two floors while defining the entire spatial experience. This central structure acts as both a sculptural element and a circulation device. It is positioned to immediately attract attention, guiding visitors through the space and organizing the layout into clearly navigable zones. As users move through the showroom, the structure influences how they interact with both the products and the architectural form.

The design uses transparency and layering at the street level to build visual intrigue. Recessed openings and large areas of curtain glazing offer a view into the interior from the outside. These architectural gestures are intended to create a sense of curiosity while erasing the boundary between public space and commercial interior. Once inside, users are directed by a deliberate circulation path shaped by the Magic Box and the surrounding geometry.

Material composition plays a critical role in expressing the character of the space. Stainless steel, ripple glass, slate, and acrylic are combined to form surfaces that shift between industrial smoothness and tactile complexity. The steel provides clarity and structural contrast, while ripple glass introduces filtered transparency. Slate contributes rawness and depth. These materials are selected not only for their aesthetic properties but also for their ability to embody the layered identity of Li Coco as a brand influenced by contemporary street culture.

Brand identity is embedded directly into the architectural system. The design incorporates branding through subtle yet consistent interventions such as laser-cut patterns and light-traced graphics that repeat throughout the space. These techniques avoid superficial signage and instead integrate branding into the surfaces, frames, and displays. This creates a rhythmic visual language that strengthens audience recognition without overwhelming the spatial intent.

The layout follows a minimalist logic that prioritizes clarity and adaptability. Merchandise is displayed with a 1.8-meter viewing height, optimized for visibility and ergonomic engagement. Storage systems are concealed within structural elements, allowing for a clean visual field. Metal framing is used extensively in display modules, supporting the brand’s association with edgy, flexible fashion while enabling modular reconfiguration as collections change.

The second level mirrors the first in both tone and spatial logic. Material consistency and lighting continuity are maintained to reinforce the showroom’s overall identity. The upper floor expands the brand’s narrative and supports additional product display while sustaining the immersive experience established below.

Li Coco Showroom demonstrates a comprehensive approach to retail architecture, using spatial hierarchy, material articulation, and brand integration to transform a fashion boutique into a platform for cultural expression. Rather than treating design as a backdrop, the showroom makes it an active participant in how users engage with both the brand and the built environment.
