Luna Beach Club, designed by Inspiral Architecture and Design Studios, is a cliffside destination on Nyanyi Beach in Nuanu Creative City, Tabanan, Bali, blending experiential design with sustainable architecture. The project features Fibonacci-inspired structures that guide the site’s natural flow. At its core is a vortex-shaped beach club made of bamboo and basalt, serving as the main restaurant, with woven shades for comfort. The site includes a lagoon pool facing the sea, an underground Utopia Cave Club accessed by an 11-meter slide, and elevated pods made from recycled materials offering playful spaces like tunnels and nets. Elysium, a secluded ceremonial space for meditation and weddings, incorporates composite SIP panels and features a 20-meter glass connection between two structural halves. The project showcases innovation in sustainable architecture, setting a benchmark for nature-integrated experiential destinations.

Perched on the cliffside of Nyanyi Beach within Nuanu Creative City in Tabanan, Bali, Luna Beach Club was envisioned as a standout destination for events, dining, arts, and holistic experiences, blending playful relaxation with iconic architecture that overlooks the ocean. The master plan includes a series of naturally inspired structures, designed to create a vibrant hub of activity, with the overall layout based on Fibonacci sequences to establish a harmonious flow and movement throughout the site.

The project brief called for the creation of a highly iconic beach club and events destination that would evoke wonder, inspiration, and a sense of adventure. At the heart of the complex is the main beach club, a vortex-like structure constructed from bamboo and basalt, serving as the primary restaurant area. The building is covered with woven shades, ensuring the interior remains bright during the day and illuminated at night. The masterplan balances masculine elements, represented by the TWG tower, and feminine elements, represented by the main dining and restaurant hub, while incorporating a central open space and a variety of additional destinations. These include a ceremonial building, a lagoon pool, a slide leading to a cave pool and club, elevated pods connected by tunnels, platform nets, and a candy bar dome, as well as enchanted gardens and an outdoor beverage garden and grill.

Adjacent to the restaurant, a lagoon-style pool faces the sea and connects to the underground ‘Utopia Cave Club’, which is accessed by an 11-meter river slide designed to add a sense of adventure. In the nearby forest area, elevated pods made from recycled materials intertwine with the surrounding trees, creating playful spaces that include nets, tunnels, and climbing routes, all blending seamlessly with the natural environment. In a secluded corner of the site is ‘Elysium,’ a tranquil space intended for ceremonial events such as meditation, weddings, and yoga, offering a peaceful retreat from the livelier areas of the complex.

The use of complex geometry throughout the project, combined with innovative, eco-friendly materials, required extensive research and design exploration. Significant effort was dedicated to testing, prototyping, and training construction teams to learn new building techniques, along with implementing the necessary quality control measures to ensure successful execution. As a result, the project achieved a groundbreaking structural system, combining bamboo and basalt, which is prominently featured in the double-curved structure of the beach club. Furthermore, the translucent roof material was applied extensively for the first time as a membrane system, further showcasing the project’s innovative approach to sustainable design.

In other areas of the project, composite SIP panels were utilized in the ceremonial building and the cave pool to achieve complex forms without relying on concrete. In the ‘Elysium’ ceremonial building, a notable feature is the unbroken 20-meter gap between the two halves of the structure, connected solely by glass, creating a striking architectural element. The design required extensive structural analysis and rigorous on-site quality control to ensure the geometry was executed accurately, as any errors in construction could have led to structural failure.

In every detail, Luna Beach Club embodies a harmonious blend of innovation, sustainability, and iconic design, establishing a new standard for experiential destinations that effortlessly integrate nature and architecture.
