MASONPRINCE Shenzhen by TOMO DESIGN in Shenzhen redefines retail by merging retro sports references with workplace aesthetics. Minimalist interiors guided by Bauhaus geometry create a framework where vintage elements interact with athletic motifs. The ground floor is anchored by the “Pool of Trace” and “Trace of Micro-Run,” combining track, pool, and workspace ideas into a single installation. The second floor evolves into an “Office Arena” where deconstructed sports settings meet office culture, culminating with a mirrored “Ping Pong Table” and a surreal oversized racket.
We drew immediate inspiration from the ‘Backrooms’ concept, merging it with MASONPRINCE’s ethos to create a surreal, multi-layered ‘dreamcore’ of subconscious fantasy — dismantling conventional retail paradigms
Interview with Uno Chan of TOMO DESIGN

MASONPRINCE Shenzhen, designed by TOMO DESIGN, establishes a strong identity at its facade with granite cladding that connects to UpperHills while asserting an avant-garde presence of simplicity and restraint. This clarity communicates the brand’s “Classless Fashion Collective” philosophy and frames the project as both spatial experiment and cultural statement.

Inside, the design follows minimalist principles. Bauhaus-inspired geometry, fluid lines, and a pure color palette define the atmosphere. This disciplined approach sets a structured framework where retro character and athletic energy converge with modern retail identity.

Historical references shape the environment through retro elements. A grid ceiling and warm brown wood-textured walls recall workplaces of the last century. Furniture continues this dialogue: a folding table marked with the number “1” and fitted with a vintage horn speaker transforms into both a desk and a scoring table. Barbells converted into clothing racks reinforce the playful disruption of conventional retail fixtures.

The first floor centers on a conceptual installation where a micro running track combines with a pool reference and workspace functions. Its flowing curves surround the “Pool of Trace,” evoking fleeting impressions of rapid movement. This feature, known as the “Trace of Micro-Run,” becomes the symbolic meeting point of sport, performance, and reflection within the store.

The second floor expands the narrative through the “All-Powerful Sports System.” Here, the design abstracts elements of bowling, gymnastics, and table tennis into new forms, merging them with retro office aesthetics to create an “Office Arena.” On the terrace, a surreal oversized racket emerges as a sculptural insertion, pushing the limits of spatial imagination and anchoring the project’s experimental character.

A mirrored “Ping Pong Table” concludes the spatial sequence. Defined by sleek contours and reflective surfaces, it serves both as artwork and a display fixture, representing creativity in the workplace. By returning to Shenzhen, the project transforms MASONPRINCE’s avant-garde vision into architecture, reinforcing its connection with the city’s fashion community and design culture.
