Archiplanstudio’s San Giacomo delle Segnate Nursery School reinterprets the architectural vocabulary of rural Lombardy through a contemporary lens, creating an educational space that is both familiar and imaginative. The 180-square-meter building sits within the dense fabric of the small Mantuan town, composed of elemental gabled and conical forms that recall the region’s traditional rural structures. A cone-shaped entrance introduces filtered natural light and marks the threshold between the urban environment and the protected interior. Inside, the classrooms are organized to foster a continuous dialogue between built space and nature, with openings that connect to the courtyard and a skylit room that opens directly to the sky. Through color, geometry, and light, the project transforms a simple typology into a poetic and formative architectural experience for early childhood education.
