Villa Allegra reimagines an unassuming 1960s ranch house as a contemporary residence shaped by Miami’s climate and waterfront setting. The project introduces new interior and exterior volumes that expand the existing structure while maintaining a measured architectural presence. Spaces are conceived as frameworks for flexible living, encouraging interaction with changing light, breezes, and water. Large openings connect the home to its pool and canal, while materials such as stone, wood, glass, and stucco create a refined palette rooted in regional building traditions. The design includes a private upper-level garden that extends the home vertically, complementing the outward-facing rooms on the ground floor. Through these elements, Villa Allegra becomes a cohesive environment that elevates everyday life through calm, luminous spatial experiences.

The architectural intervention begins with a clear intention to generate transformation through precision rather than erasure. Additions are defined by carefully proportioned volumes that recalibrate the relationship between the house and its surroundings, allowing natural phenomena to shape the character of the interior. This approach reveals a design strategy focused on atmosphere and spatial clarity rather than overt formal gestures.

The entrance establishes the project’s tone with a tall volume centered on an oculus and reflecting pool that animate the space through shifting reflections. Inside, a large organizing room divides public and private areas, while expansive glazing draws the landscape into the home. At the rear, an elongated outdoor living enclosure expands the experience of the house into the open air, incorporating a circular column that contains a sky-lit outdoor shower. These gestures emphasize a seamless connection between shelter and environment.

Materiality reinforces the project’s dialogue with its context. Traditional regional references are abstracted through the use of contemporary fabrication methods, such as powder-coated laser-cut aluminum screens that reinterpret historical motifs. Combined with tactile surfaces including concrete, sandstone, and Ipe wood, these elements root the house in its neighborhood while asserting a modern character. Through deliberate additions and a restrained aesthetic, Villa Allegra transforms a modest mid-century home into a richly layered retreat oriented toward light, water, and the rhythms of tropical living.
